Chesterfield Hockey Association offers a comprehensive program that introduces children of all skill levels into the game of ice hockey. Program cost is $115 per session.
The Learn To Play Program will focus on skill development without the pressures of competition. This program is a progressive learn to play teaching curriculum designed to introduce beginners to the games basic skills. Participants are introduced to the skills of skating, passing, puck control and shooting in a progressive one step at a time manner. Children learn through participating in practice drills and informal modified games under the direction of USA Hockey Certified On-Ice Coaching Instructors.
PROGRAM GOALS:
to develop a fun and learning environment
offer a safe and positive experience for a child's first contact with hockey
instill self-confidence, experience a sense of personal achievement and team atmosphere
to have fun playing hockey
to learn the fundamental skills
to be introduced to the concepts of cooperation and fair play.
PROGRAM FOCUS:
Develop basic hockey skills
Skating, Passing, Puck Handling, Turning,
Stopping and Shooting
Each skill is introduced and practiced in a progressive, "one step at a time manner".
The goal is to build a foundation for future years.

The sessions will be held on Saturdays. The cost is $115 plus $41 USA Hockey insurance (IMR) fee which will be valid through 8/31/06.

ratio of 1 instructor for every 4-5 players
A Head Instructor leads and monitors all practices

GROUP A * Stance * T-Push * Glide turns * Stopping * Backward stance * Puck Handling stance * Stationary puck handling * Open-ice carry * Forehand pass (stationary) * Backhand pass (stationary)
GROUP B * Lateral movement * Front start acceleration * Two foot stop * Crossover pumping * Backward V-stop * Forward to backwards transition * Backwards to forward transition * Tight turns * Use of feet for puck control * Lead pass to a moving target
EQUIPMENT: Full hockey gear is strongly suggested however the following equipment is required at a minimum: Helmet with mouthgard, neckguard, hockey gloves, elbow pads, shin pads, protective cup and skates.
